Failure and Success What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? "If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves." There are no shortcuts to any place worth going." "Beware the fury of a patient man." "Our patience will achieve more than our force." Maturity: Doing what you're supposed to do when you're supposed to do it regardless of how you feel. Success doesn't come to you . . . you go to it. Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must first set yourself on fire. Eighty percent of success is showing up. Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go. Half the failures in life arise from pulling in one's horse as he is leaping. The road to success is lined with many tempting parking spaces. If you stop every time a dog barks, your road will never end. Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. In order for you to profit from your mistakes, you have to go out and make some. Success doesn't mean the absence of failures; it means the attainment of ultimate objectives. It means winning the war, not every battle. Failure is success if we learn from it. Success does not consist in never making mistakes, but in never making them a second time. The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success. Get up one more time than you're knocked down. Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get. Skill to do comes of doing. We are not retreating - we are advancing in another direction. The true measure of your worth includes all the benefits others have gained from your success. To laugh much; to win respect of intelligent persons and the affections of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give one's self; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition.; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm, and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived--this is to have succeeded.
